New Adventures

In my absence I've managed to accomplish a few things, travel a few places, and see some brand new faces. Good experiences though they were, the past few weeks have garnered more excitement and challenge than I thought possible.

An update on school lunch. The article was completed and I am working on delving deeper in to the world of school nutrition and childhood obesity--but I will have to wait because I have found a new, surprising interest--gerontology. I am not quite sure how it happened, but I do believe it has something to do with this next story I am writing about the Greensboro Adult Day Health Center. Adult Day Centers have been around since the 1970s but I only became recently aware of their existence and what they.

Below are links to information on Adult Day Centers and to the Greene Center. Hopefully you will see what an asset this is to Greene since it serves a unique community of residents. Enjoy!

  1. Maybe after you cover this subject in Greene you will like it so much that you may specialize in gerontology -- just like Andy Miller told us to specialize in one or two subjects. The Baby Boomers will be the biggest audience in a few years on this subject.

  2. Members of my family have benefited greatly from adult day health programs, and one of my nearest and dearest used to help run one! So I'm a big believer in them. No one should enter a nursing home one day earlier than absolutely necessary, and these community programs are a hedge against that.
